UNGA’s panel adopts Pakistan’s draft seeking security assurances for non-nuclear states
The United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) main committee has adopted Pakistan’s proposed resolution entitled “Conclusion of effective international arrangements to assure non-nuclear-weapon States against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons”.
A majority of 119 votes including those of Non-aligned Movement, China and Japan were gathered in favour of the resolution with none against, while 60 of the voters abstained.
The European States, United States of America and India abstained from the voting.
The draft resolution will be put for formal approval of UNGA next month along with three of Pakistan’s regional disarmament-related resolutions.
