Sit in was called off on assurance of PM’s resignation, claims Fazal-ur-Rehman

LAHORE (10th Feb, 2020) – Maulana Fazlur Rehman the chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) has claimed that he had ended the Islamabad sit-in on the assurance that Prime Minister Imran Khan would immediately step down and new elections would be held three months following Imran Khan’s resignation.

Prior to this claim, Maulana Fazl said: “I urge Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi [Punjab Assembly Speaker] to disclose the secret he is carrying as amaanat”.

Fazal-ur-Rehman however did not exactly pointed out the source of assurance as per his claim.

But the majority of analysts are of the view that PTI led government was not under any pressure during the Fazal-ur-Rehman led sit in at Islamabad nor could have any authority or person in power agreed to such demands of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman.
