Afghan Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar visit Islamabad today

A strong authorized Afghan Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will visit Islamabad today, as announced by their spokesperson Suhail Shaheen on Twitter.

The delegation will discuss “important issues” with Pakistani officials in the capital city of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

This critical visit of Taliban delegation is followed by their recent visits to Russia, China and Iran after the breakup of Afghan Peace Process Dialogue between the US President Donald Trump and the Talibans.

Yesterday the US Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Amb Zalmay Khalilzad also arrived in Islamabad for discussions with Pakistani civil and military leadership for reviving peace talks with Afghan Taliban.

Diplomatic sources in the US had said that Pakistan was trying to bring Taliban leader Mullah Baradar to Islamabad from Doha on Wednesday (today) for a possible meeting with Khalilzad.

The Taliban are also visiting Islamabad in respect of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recent comments prior to UNGA session in New York that he would try to convince the US President to resume talks with Taliban, as per sources.
