Pakistan’s Senate Election 2021 – Polling on 37 vacant seats underway
Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Polling on thirty-seven (37) vacant seats of the Senate is in progress at the parliament house and three provincial Assemblies including Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the federal capital where the National Assembly hall has been declared the polling station, Shafiq Arain was the first one to cast the vote followed by Faisal Vawda.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also cast his vote who during his visit to the Assembly hall also interacted with the MNAs of PTI and allied parties.
Other prominent figures who have so far cast their vote include Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, Minister for Communications Murad Saeed, and Minister for Science Fawad Chaudhary.
11 senators will be elected from Sindh and 12 each from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
For the federal capital Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani of PPP (the joint candidate of PDM) and Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of PTI and are contesting for the general seat whilst for the women seat Farzana Kausar of PML (N) and the joint candidate of (PDM) and Fauzia Arshad of PTI and are competing.
The Punjab province senate seats were finalized on mutual agreement without any contest by the political parties.
The polling started at 9:00 am will end at 5:00 pm.
