Pakistan is prepared for war: DG ISPR on Indian army chief’s statement

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army in reaction to the provocative statement issued by the ‘Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat’ said that “Pakistan is a nuclear power and is ready for war”.

General Rawat threatened Pakistan with surprise action by Indian security forces, a day after New Delhi cancelled a meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries.

General Rawat said Indian forces will take further measures. There is always a surprise in Indian forces’ action, General Rawat said at the media briefing.

“We are always ready and prepared for war. War happens when either side is unprepared for it,” DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor said on Saturday in his interview to a local tv channel.

The Pakistan Army’s media wing spokesperson said that the country’s desire for peace shouldn’t be perceived as its weakness, adding that the Army won’t let peace be derailed.

The ISPR spokesperson declared General Rawat’s statement, ‘irresponsible’.

Major General Ghafoor said that the third generation of Kashmiris are rendering sacrifices for their liberation against the occupying forces of India.

“The Indian government has failed to clamp down the political struggle of Kashmiris,” the spokesperson said, adding that the government of Pakistan’s offer for dialogue is still on the table.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan has successfully fought against terrorism adding that the country has established peace after two-decades of struggle.

“We know the cost of peace and we want to take it ahead,” he said.

The DG ISPR said that the Indian government adopted anti-Pakistan narrative in its attempt to divert the attention of its people from the recently surfaced graft allegations [against Modi].

Major General Ghafoor said that there is a realignment underway in the international politics and Pakistan’s relations are getting better with other respective states.

In the same context the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry hit back at the provocative statements of Indian Army Chief by saying that “General Rawat should know that he is an army chief not a BJP secretary general”.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that General Rawat is highlighting himself as a ‘tool’ of a political party, adding that  Pakistan is calling for peace between both sides whereas the Indian army chief is restoring to warmongering.

Earlier the Pak Army spokesperson rebuffed the Indian government’s claim that it mutilated the body of its soldier byits statement that: “We categorically dismiss the Indian allegation. We are a professional army. We can’t disrespect the body of a soldier even if he belongs to an enemy state”.
