Govt. upholds its decision of putting 172 individuals involved in money laundering probe on ECL

ISLAMABAD (January 2nd 2019): Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan  chaired a federal cabinet meeting today during which the government decided against striking down every name on the list immediately. “Those included in the list will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and after the probe is completed then some names will be removed from the ECL”, sources said.

State Interior Minister Shahryar Khan Afridi and legal experts briefed the PM on the case during the cabinet meeting.

172 individuals, including senior PPPP leadership were placed on the Exit Control List (ECL)  by the federal government for their alleged role in the long pending mega money laundering and fake bank accounts case.

The agenda was made part of cabinet meeting in view of the Hon. Supreme Court’s 31st Dec, 2018 advise to the federal government to review its decision of placing 172 individuals on ECL.
