Christchurch Mosques Attack – Australian lawmaker Anning censured

CANBERRA Wednesday, 03 April 2019 | Senator Fraser Anning, a far-right independent has been formally censured by the Australian Senate for his racist and undue comments against Muslim migration.

Anning had falsely alleged responsibility on Muslims for the New Zealand mosque attacks in which innocent Muslims themselves were victims of  a  ‘white supremacist’ planned  terrorist attack on two mosques in New Zealand, killing 50 Muslims in a massacre which sent the whole muslim world in mourning – while the remaining non-muslim world in great shock.

Today the entire Australian lawmakers except Senator, Cory Bernardi, condemned Anning’s remarks declaring the remarks as “shameful” and “appalling”, while three lawmakers including Anning abstained from the voting.

The censure declared that Mr Anning had sought to “attribute blame to victims of a horrific crime and to vilify people on the basis of religion”.

The reprimand, being the fifth passed by the Senate in last ten years , stated that Mr Anning’s remarks last month did not reflect the views of the parliament or the Australian people.

Fraser Anning while still not ashamed of his remarks said the censure was “an attack on free speech”.

Senator Penny Wong from Labor said: “there was a difference between freedom of speech and hate speech”, “While those injured were being treated, this senator sought to further fan the flames of division.”

Even the Australian public at large condemned Anning and 1.4 million plus signed a petition demanding Anning’s resignation in the days following his comments on 15 March.

The New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has already termed Anning’s remarks “a disgrace”.
