ISLAMABAD (January 15, 2019): The Supreme Court today in its verdict on a ‘suo moto’ case related to the country’s uncontrolled growing population ordered the government, civil society and religious scholars to control the issue.
A three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Hon. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, announced the verdict on the case. The apex court had taken ‘suo moto’ notice of the uncontrolled growing population in the country in july last year.
Declaring the uncontrolled growing population a stress on the country’s resources, the court termed the increase in the population an “explosion” and said there is a need to launch a nationwide campaign to control the issue.
