MAKKAH Summit – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan left for Saudi Arabia

MAKKAH / ISLAMABAD (Thursday, 30 May 2019) – The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan left for Saudi Arabia to attend the 14th summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the Saudi city of MAKKAH being held tomorrow (Friday).

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi along senior Pakistani officials is already present in Saudi Arabia.

The OIC event will serve as a platform for OIC member states to exchange views and deliberate on a range of political, economic and security issues of Islamic countries.

“The OIC session is very important to discuss the Middle East conflict and also the proposed peace plan to defuse the situation,” Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters on Tuesday, prior to his departure for Jeddah to participate in the OIC Council for Foreign Ministers meeting preceding the summit-level meeting.

The Pakistani PM will, among other regional issues, focus on the imperatives of solidarity and unity of the Muslim Ummah, support for Muslim causes including Jammu and Kashmir, countering growing Islamophobia and ensuring educational and scientific excellence.

As one of OIC founding members, Pakistan has played a key role in advancing a range of Muslim causes and in efforts to revitalize the Organization.

The OIC has consistently supported Pakistan’s principled stand on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through its resolutions, communiqués and declarations.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan left for Saudi Arabia from Pakistan a while ago and will first visit the sacred city of MEDINA and offer prayers at the mosque of HAZRAT MUHAMMED MUSTAFA (Peace Be Upon Him) AL-MASJID AN-NABAWI in MEDINA City and then proceed for the Makkah Summit events.
