Iran Floods – Pakistan expresses grief over losses in Iran
ZHOB/ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN (Mon, April 8, 2019) – In Iran since March 17 to April 2019, widespread flash floods affected large areas of the country severely affecting Golestan, Fars, Khuzestan, Lorestan, and other provinces.
Over 70 people died nationwide as of 5 April as per different sources.
The widespread flash floods were caused due to three major rain waves which caused floods during two weeks.
The severity of rainfall can be assessed from the statistics that Golestan received 70 percent of its average annual rainfall in one day in the first wave of raining in mid-March and three wave of consecutive raining have led to flooding in at least 26 of Iran’s 31 provinces.
The rains caused severe damages to Iran and its people – overflowing several dams, bursting river banks of over 140 rivers, about 409 landslides, damaging infrastructure of over 1,900 cities and villages across Iran, causing monetary losses of hundreds of millions of dollars to the economy, among others.
On the order of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran along other government authorities and volunteers initiated the relief efforts.
The government of Pakistan and the Pakistani nation has expressed grief and sorrow over the severe destruction, losses particularly the human lives of Iranians caused by flash floods in Iran.
“Sardar Hayaat MUHAMMED Khan Mandokhel (Title: Sardar-e-Aala) the supreme chief of Mandokhel, Hadizai tribes”, and his tribesmen condoled with the families who lost their dear ones in the calamity and offered Iran all the support to the country and the nation in this moment of grief.
The government of Pakistan also offered its condolences to the brotherly and neighbouring country and offered to extend humanitarian support to Iran in rescue efforts.
