Coronavirus May Be Less Harmful for Children, Pregnant Women
- Early research proves virus was not passed from the mother to the fetus in the womb
An early research finds that the new coronavirus (COVID-19) may be less harmful for children and pregnant women.
The new coronavirus (COVID-19) has stagnated the entire China particularly the Hubei Province since its first revelation in late December 2019, quickly infecting over 60,000 people across 25 countries, as per sources.
The new coronavirus can spread readily between humans with each infected person spreading it to at least two others but the ratio of children catching the virus from affected persons is very low as per data available per sources.
Additionally, an initial new research shows that the virus does not pass from pregnant women to fetuses during pregnancy – it appears that the transmission routes of the new coronavirus do not include amniotic fluid, cord blood, or breast milk, all of which may be routes for a vertical transmission, as per sources of initial research.
But the women who are infected with the coronavirus must still be isolated from their newborns after birth to avoid infecting them via close contact.
