Australia’s population to reach 25 million
Australia’s population will reach 25 million on Tuesday, according to official estimates.
The increase in population to 25 million is primarily as a result of migration which was required for the big continent like country for its growth and maintenance having very limited workforce available among its own population.
But with increase in population in fewer cities like Sydney and Melbourne, the government wants people to look at alternative places to live.
Australia’s population is concentrated around its coast – Sydney and Melbourne alone account for about two-fifths of people.
A majority (67%) live in state and territory capital cities, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The only exceptions are Hobart (44% of Tasmanians) and Brisbane (49% of Queenslanders).
The Australian government still needs more increased population for managing the country’s affairs but with better planning for population distribution.
