Today on Monday 01 October 2018, PTI Chairman Imran Khan appointed one of his oldest and most trusted comrades as Secretary General 0f PTI.
An official notification in this regard was issued by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
Prior to this Arshad Dad was Additional Secretary General and reporting directly to the PTI Chief. This is a strategic move of Imran Khan since the Local Government elections being planned and most of the leadership now part of the government or in the legislature, the PTI Chairman Imran Khan needed an aide to manage the Party affairs, ensure a transparent and seamless transition in the Party to appoint new office bearers and most importantly prepare the Party for the crucial Local Government Elections. Arshad Dad is the man chosen for this task.
Background of Arshad Dad
Arshad Dad joined PTI weeks after it was founded in Lahore in April 1996. He contested the 1997 election on a PTI ticket from Gujrat. His father Brig Sahib Dad (late) was a decorated officer and later entered politics. Brig Sahib Dad got elected from Gujrat on the PPP Ticket and became provincial minister in Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s government. Later he fell out with Bhutto and relinquished his ministry.
Arshad Dad is Electrical Engineer by profession and graduated from UET Lahore in 1971. He joined PTV in 1972 and resigned 9 years later to establish Qavi Engineers which is now a leading construction firm in Pakistan. The firm recently undertook the expansion and renovation of Bacha Khan Airport, Peshawar.
He is a social worker and philanthropist. The family has established a Trust in their father’s name, Brig Sahib Dad Khan Welfare Trust. The Trust functions from Tehsil Kharian of Gujrat operating a purpose-built facility that caters to orphans providing them primary and secondary education and vocational training under one roof.
